Filtration for lobsters and lobster larvae
Northbay has worked hard to develop a compact recycling bio-filter which is efficient with all the systems across a range of marine species. The filter can be set up to work over the required range of the species and the life stage. Space is always an issue in hatcheries so a compact pallet sized filter is really what is needed. We use a combination of biological aerobic filtration, protein extraction and particle filtration with heaters and coolers installed to enable operation at the optimum temperature and water quality. The system is also fitted with a UV unit. Although the system can be fitted with an ozone generator, this is only advisable with some species and life cycle stages, so it is not fitted as standard.
Putting our experience to good use
Our close partnership with our manufacturers and suppliers means we can work closely to develop new products and new systems. One of our goals is to simplify the system as much as possible to make it easier to operate and robust by using fluidic filters we ensure a high exchange of gases within the water before it is put through the system.
We also used our experience to keep the filter tank at an optimum height to ensure that the lobster cubes and incubators can be at an easy working height.
