Shellfish transport between fishermen and restaurants.

Northbay is working to protect the livelihoods of local shellfish fishermen

The Shellfish Transport System is an autonomous transport unit, based on a standard pallet with temperature control and sprinkler system which can transport shellfish, in prime condition, for up to 48 hours. The unit also continuously records temperature and locations during transport enabling comprehensive monitoring. This innovation enables direct marketing between fishermen and their customers. The lobsters, crabs, langoustines, mussels, oysters, or other shellfish can be shipped on a normal pallet courier service. This reduces cost and environmental impact as smaller vans can be used rather than specially adapted transport such as chillers or Viviers.
One advantage of this system is at a restaurant can use the provenance of the shellfish, thus tying the restaurant and the customer to the area and to the fishermen that caught or farmed the shellfish.

Restaurant holding tanks

As part of this system, Northbay has developed shellfish holding tanks that can be used singularly, or as multiple units, enabling the holding of live shellfish on-site ensuring quality and freshness. These systems are built on single pallets and come with our specialist filter to ensure water quality… This enables the restaurant to keep the shellfish in the highest possible condition for its customers. The shellfish holding system can also be used by markets and fishmongers who sell live shellfish.
